Matthew 24:10-13

Matthew 24 and God’s Law

We can find Jesus giving a teaching to the disciples in Matthew 24. For the end-time church today, this is going to be one of the important chapters in our lifetime. Why? This is the primary teaching from Jesus about the generation that sees the Lord return. This is the teaching of the second coming of Christ.

Let’s dig into Matthew 24:10-13:

“And many will turn away from me and betray and hate each other. And many false prophets will appear and will deceive many people. Sin will be rampant everywhere, and the love of many will grow cold.”

Jesus is describing a great falling away of believers in this passage. Even so, He also communicates that in the midst of such a great turning away there will be a great harvest of people coming into the faith as well. It will be a super dynamic time where both are happening.

In light of the Greek transcription of verse 12, we can read it like this, “Because of utter disregard for God’s law, the love of many will grow cold”

Utter disregard for God’s law will cause the love of many to grow cold. So there is going to be a crisis of law that will lead to a crisis of love. This is going to look like people looking at God’s law as a restriction for what they could experience outside of it. People will claim that it is what is keeping them from being free. They will also claim that it is what is causing them to experience feelings of being in bondage when that is not the case.

They will call into question God’s law. The center of the bullseye will be the authority of God’s word being attacked and disregarded entirely. This event will cause people to adopt this ideology: Become your own god and you get to create your own law.

God’s Love and Law are Inseparable!

Jesus said this in John 14:15, “If you love me, you will keep my commandments.”

What are the first and second greatest commandments according to Jesus?

We see Jesus answering this question in Mark 12: “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?”

This was Jesus’ response in Mark 12:29, “The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.”

According to Jesus, the very essence of God’s law is love. It is impossible to disconnect God’s law from God’s heart. People in the last days will be deceived and believe that they can be connected to God’s heart and live in lawlessness.

When you remove the law of God, you also remove love for God. His love language is obedience. There is no way to love the Lord without the law.

Let’s consider the garden of Eden for example. There was only one rule. “Don’t eat of the tree of good and evil.” It had to be in place for love and free will to exist. The way Adam and Eve showed that they loved God, in the beginning, was that they follow His commands. Of course, this was until the eventual fall of man when both Adam and Eve disobeyed His command.

The goal of the antichrist spirit that is active in the last days is to eliminate any expression of God from planet earth. Let’s make the world lawless and lead them to be loveless to lead them to be Godless.

Look at the attack on the biblical design of marriage of our time. God made male and female. Since the goal of the enemy in the last days is to crush anything that looks like God, he has tried to pervert what the Lord originally established.

This is the gender crisis we see in our lifetime and the main issue with the idea of same-sex couples. The enemy wants to pervert what God made and established because he doesn’t want ANY expression of God on the earth. Look at how it comes through the idea of promoting love. The idea is that we’ll be more free if we follow our flesh and pursue anything that causes us to break God’s law.

This isn’t a promotion of love, it’s a distortion of love. On the contrary, God’s love is not only expressed in compassion and empathy. It is rooted and grounded in truth.

Yet even still, God is filled with compassion for us in our weakness. His eye hasn’t turned away from us for a moment and has seen us even in our most difficult times. It is His truth that is freeing, and His way that is right. He comes to us speaking words like: “This is who you are, this is where you’re at, and this is who you can be if you turn to me and follow me.”

All it takes is to give up our own way and begin to follow his. He’ll forgive us, set our feet on the right path, help us grow, and lead us into the right way of living. All it takes is the first step.
